by Eddie Borgwardt

The majority of new automobiles have black ceramic trim around the rim of the back window. It may have a straight edge or it may be dotted. A dotted edge is generally about a quarter of an inch in width and typically the window film will not adhere properly to the dots. Therefore you end up with an air pocket along the glass. While this is normally not very obvious, some vehicles have instead a half foot wide strip of dots along the top edge of the rear window.

When that happens, a large and uneven pocket of air created which not very appealing. To prevent this condition from occurring, apply vinyl to the dotted area or you can leave the wide band of dots un-tinted. After allowing time for the film to dry (about 3 days), mask off the dotted area with some masking tape and paper before applying flat black enamel spray paint. Let the paint dry adequately prior to removing the masking tape.

You may also try glue stick or liquid glue pens to fill dots. This is messy and tricky, but if you do it right, it looks very nice. Ceramic auto glass tinting is not a metal film nor a dyed one.
